Online grocery shopping is back, and it's quietly finding success
"Whenever Chesapeake resident Katherine Skinner passes a toddler screaming, 'Mommy, I want that!' in the supermarket, she confidently pulls the parent aside and shares her secret for no-fuss, speed grocery shopping: Buy food by the byte. Once a week, Skinner visits Farm Fresh's Internet Express Web site and spends about 10 minutes filling her virtual cart with food and other sundries. Skinner selects a 30-minute time frame for pickup, and when she arrives at the Farm Fresh of her choice, she's given a stopwatch to make sure she's checked out and on her way out of the doors in less than eight minutes."

THE TOP 10 FOODS TO BEWARE
"If you are like most people, you are probably confused about transfats. Which foods have them, and which do not? Which are the worst foods, which are the best? Go through the list below to become a wiser and safer shopper. Also, remember to check the food labels. Manufacturers keep on improving their products by reducing the amount of transfats in packaged foods, so this information may change."

Magic City Morning Star: A Year Already?
"Third on the list of things I'd change is the lack of proper groceries here. We have a couple of corner markets and even a Yamazaki, but they are small and charge -- for example -- $5 for an orange where I'd only have to pay an ever-so-reasonable $3 in my last town."

Americans' Weekends Focus on Family, Food and Sex
"LIFE magazine releases The Great American Weekend Study, with new information on how Americans plan, spend and want to get out of their weekends. The study was conducted by phone with over 1,000 adults nationwide... Saturday is the #1 shopping day of the week: Americans spend an average of 42 minutes on Saturday shopping, vs. 27 minutes on Sunday and 20 minutes on a weekday. 40% of Americans do their grocery shopping on weekends."

"Would you like to make a grocery list with a click of a mouse?
Just sit down, relax, and think of things you do not have in your house!
Scan through the items for the ones you want to pick,
And soon you will have your name on a list with no special tricks!"

Eating tips for a healthy lowfat Winter
"Food... not another article on food, I hear you say. But as we come into the long winter nights in front of the TV with our favourite snacks, we forget CSI doesn't stand for Candy Snack Indulgence and it becomes hard to fend off those extra kilos. We argue that we are putting on some extra insulation and then resort to wearing the baggy clothes as our tight summer clothes and those cute jeans just don't look good anymore."

The stuff of lives
"The ninth collectors show, ' Tons More Things People Collect,' opens today at the first-floor exhibit space on the south end of Crown Center. Among the samples of 112 collections you can find mousetraps, TV show lunchboxes, TV Guide covers, marble jewelry, vases from vintage cars and Mr. Clean stuff, brought in by a guy whose father wrote the jingle for the product. The first show was born when Krehbiel realized how many people she talked to collected something, and usually more than one something."

Coupon clippers clean up
"In the kingdom of coupon-clippers, Heather Sokol is a queen. In eight years, she has moved from the realm of coupon collectors, who are happy to save a dollar or two at the grocery checkout counter, to the elite group of coupon royalty--shoppers who live for a bargain and feel a rush as the scanner deducts half of their grocery bill."

Getting to test the brave new wired kitchen of tomorrow

Attention! Online grocery-shopping is back
"After a spectacular implosion, Internet groceries are rolling again. ['Today' financial editor] Jean Chatzky tests out one of the on-your-doorstep services... Today, these groceries are legitimate businesses fulfilling about 1 percent of the nation’s $570 billion grocery bill. That may sound like a drop in the bucket, but business is expected to triple by 2008, according to Jupiter Research. Meanwhile, a report from the Food Marketing Institute reports that 5 percent of consumers — 3.7 million people — shopped online for groceries in the last year, up from 3 percent the year before."

Grocery shopping goes high-tech
"Wouldn't it be great to go grocery shopping and for once not have to chase down a clerk to find out where they put the chili powder and anchovy paste? Well, several companies are developing 'intelligent shopping carts' that could help you find stuff. You would write up your shopping list on your home computer, and a computer screen attached to your cart would tell you where each item is found."

American Grocery Shoppers Seek Quality, Value and Convenience
"While American consumers continue to seek value in their weekly grocery shopping, value is defined differently for each and every shopper group and even individual shopper. One thing is consistent though, they are willing to take extra steps to get it, according to the new Food Marketing Institute (FMI) report, U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends, 2005... Shoppers identified three factors that would increase their trip frequency with the primary store: faster checkouts, quick-stop areas at the front of the store (with milk, bread and other staples) and friendly employees."
